Skincare Staples

There’s something about reading skincare blog posts that excites me. I love reading what products people love and what brands they highly rate so I thought I’d share some of my staple skincare products. I have SO many so I’ve tried to narrow it down to one product for each category. I’m on a skincare buying ban as I have far too many products but I’m sure it won’t last long…

  • Face Wipes

I’m not a massive fan of using face wipes for taking my makeup, it’d be a last resort however I do like a face wipe to freshen my face wipe on a no-makeup day or before I apply my makeup. My go to wipes though are the Nivea 3 in 1 Cleansing Wipes for Dry/Sensitive skin. Nivea is an incredible brand for affordable skincare, the products are always of such a high quality

  • Toner

Every morning the first step in my skincare routine is to apply toner on a cotton pad and give my face a thorough cleanse with it. It not only helps to clean my face, it freshens me up and wakes me up as I’m a zombie in the morning! I only use the Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Toner, Simple is very similar to Nivea in the sense that it is also an affordable skincare brand but the quality of their products is always insane. Simple is a brand I use an awful lot.

  • Cleanser

Although I said I narrowed it down to one product per category I need to have two for this one as I use two different types of cleansers. I use micellar water as my go-to cleanser on a cotton pad, I’ve used a few and the one I’m currently using is the Nivea Daily Essentials Sensitive Micellar Water. The other cleanser I use is the Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk which is a dream, it gets all the makeup and dirt off of your face and makes it feel so clean. The smell is dreamy as is the consistency, I just LOVE this product and highly recommend it if anyone wants to try a new cleanser.

  • Oil

I had never used a face oil until this year, part of my new years resolutions was to take better care of my skin by having a skincare routine which I have stuck to. I use the No7 Youthful Replenishing Facial Oil, No7 skincare is always of such a  high quality however the pricing is slightly higher than drugstore brands but less than high end brands and I think that is reflected in the quality. I had a disaster with this oil recently though, I wear glasses/contact lenses and it is so difficult to wear glasses when you have face oil on and you obviously can’t wear it when you’re applying it. Anyway, I was applying the oil, blind as a bat, and ended up knocking the bottle. I lost about a quarter and at around £25 for the bottle I was gutted. The product does such a good job though, although I’m not too sure why I use one to replenish youthful skin, it is non-greasy and so replenishing.

  • Face Mask

If you have read my blogpost ‘Unwinding’ you will know how much I love a face mask. Especially in the lead up to my exams and during them I’ve used a face mask around three times a week, it gives me the incentive to take some time out whilst making my skin feel amazing. I highly recommend the L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Detox Mask, it is incredible I love everything about it, especially how my skin feels after I take it off.

  • Moisturiser

I do have one product for this but I have two types of it so I’m including both. I use the No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Day Cream and Night Cream, although they are on the pricey side, they work wonders. They’re both really moisturising and the day cream has an SPF 15 which is so good for protecting your skin. I am rubbish at remembering to put on a  night cream after I’ve taken my makeup off so I’m going to try and remember from now on.

  • Primer

I wasn’t too sure whether primer came under makeup or primer but I assumed it is part of the skincare routine. I have switched between primers for so long as it is a key part of my skincare/makeup routine, if I don’t use a primer my makeup will not stay on. I’m currently using the L’Oreal Infallible Priming Base and have been for quite a while. My skin has recently become slightly oily so I need a matte base otherwise my pores stand out and my foundation doesn’t sit right.

  • Eye Cream

I love to use an eye cream after moisturiser, my go-to one is the Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream. It used to be a No7 one however I found it too greasy and if some product got too close to my eye it would kill. This range is incredible and the eye cream is a staple from it.

  • Hot Cloth Cleanser

This is another product that is in my routine as a result of my resolutions. This is my go-to product if I want healthy, brighter looking skin rather than a detox to reduce pores. I use the No7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser which I apply with a No7 muslin and hot water then splash cold water on my face after. I don’t do this as often as I would like to, I do it about once a fortnight.

  • Face Wash

I don’t have a staple face wash but the one that I use is the Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash and Mask, which is so affordable and doubles up as a face mask. I use this if I have any spots or feel like my pores are too visible and I believe it does help to reduce both.

  • Face Spray

I LOVE a face spray, especially when it’s incredibly hot to freshen up or when you feel exhausted to wake you up a bit. I’m including two for this category as I have two different types. The first is the Radial dragon’s blood hydraluronic tonic spray which is so hydrating however I don’t use it as much as the Superdrug Vitamin E Toning Mist. This is mainly because of the price difference but I find the Superdrug mist a lot more refreshing and soothing. Plus, the Superdrug Vitamin E range is incredible, plus it’s a bargain the you can get the buy one get one half price offer!

Some other products that I highly recommend that don’t really fit into a category is Sudocrem for spots which is so cheap but works better on spots than any other spot cream that I’ve used. Also, coconut oil is an absolute life saver, it is the most hydrating product that you could use but I find it hard to wear as a glasses wearer unless I have contact lenses in.

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed reading it and got some inspiration for some skincare products.
