What a year 2017 has been but I’m not here to reflect on it (keep your eyes peeled for that this weekend), today I’m going to share with you my favourites from the year. I had a very very very long list to pick from and I’ve reduced it to the smallest list that I could so I’m only sharing with you the things that I truly loved this year. So, let’s get into it…
Beauty And The Beast
When I looked at all of the films released this year that I’ve watched this stuck out straight out. This was a controversial one for Disney fans but I adored it. I felt like it had all of the magic of the original with special additions that were refreshing and made it even more exciting. The music is beautiful, the cast is perfect and I have a little tear whenever I watch it. I will never forget going to watch this three times in the cinema this year, the first being a stand out one as I sobbed all the way through it.
This is one that’s a late addition to my list of yearly favourites as I only went to see this a couple of weeks ago. I read Wonder years ago and it changed me, it is such a special book (I wrote about it more in depth in this post) and at my points in my life, even now, I think about it profoundly. I was very apprehensive for the film but the cast list looked good and the trailer had me hooked. My high expectations were met, it was everything that I’d imagined for the books and especially for the characters, they were all portrayed how they deserved to be. I cannot wait for this to be released on DVD as I will be borrowing out to everyone, everyone should read/watch about Auggie. Everyone will learn something from him.
The Thrill Of It All-Sam Smith
Where do I start on this album? I have not stopped listening to this since it was released, it holds such a special place in my heart and I can’t imagine myself ever stopping listening to it. Every song on this album is incredible, my favourites include ‘Say It First’, ‘Pray’ and ‘Burning’. This is a truly beautiful album.
This was released earlier on in the year following the release of ‘Shape Of You’ and ‘Castle On The Hill’. This album is another amazing one, I love how different every song is and the emotions that they all provoke. I went to see Ed live this year, it was an incredible experience seeing the songs of Divide brought to life. My favourites from the album include ‘Barcelona’, ‘Bibi Be Ye Ye’ and ‘Nancy Mulligan’.
Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu
I spoke about this book in a bit more depth in this post but this is my favourite book that I’ve read this year, it stands head and shoulders above the other 21. This was such a great read, at lot of people could learn a lot from this book, especially about feminism. So many grown adults can’t get there heads round the concept of equality yet a teenage girl bosses it in this book? Read it, become a Moxie girl and I’m sure this will be one of your favourite books soon.
The Heart Of It Podcast
I love listening to podcasts, I have a blog post coming soon talking about my favourites and this is my absolute favourite from this year. This is Estee Lalonde’s podcast, who is one of my absolute favourite people ever, she is my major girl crush. Each episode of this podcast tries to get to the heart of certain subjects such as makeup, feminism and identity. I love listening to this whilst I’m having a bath, I feel like you make use of that spare time plus Estee’s voice is so relaxing. If you’re not a fan of podcasts or aren’t familiar with any, I highly recommend this!
I started my blog this year! We’re very fast approaching my one year blog anniversary/birthday and I can’t believe I’ve been doing it for that long. I’m well aware people have had blogs for a lot longer but I never thought I’d have managed for this long! It’s been an incredible year blogging, it’s changed my life and me as a person, I hope to celebrate many more years of blogging as it’s now become my favourite thing to do.
Olympus Pen EPL-8
This is another very late addition to the favourites list as I only got my Olympus Pen in the last couple of weeks of December. However, this has been a game changer for my blog photography and photography in general. I cannot stress how amazing this camera is, a full review is going to be coming soon. It is the perfect camera for blogging, I can’t wait to make full use of it next year.
This year, in the middle of June, I got my little rabbit called Bruce. I didn’t think I could love an animal like I love him, he is an absolute dream. He has the cutest little characteristics, he’s gorgeous to look at and he loves his Mumma- what isn’t to love? He is so photogenic, this was one of the first photos that I took on my Olympus Pen and he loved the attention he was getting! If you’d like a little bit more information on Bruce (and my little cat, Bella) you can read my pets post here.
This year I passed my driving test, after around 60 lessons and lots of blood, sweat and tears. Driving has changed my life, more than I could have imagined really. It gives you such a great sense of accomplishment and freedom, I love knowing that I can go anywhere because I have my little Florence sat on the front. I’d apologise for plugging my past posts but they’re actually relevant, if you’re learning to drive or your test is fast approaching I wrote a full post on my experience which includes some tips, give that a read here.
This year I felt confidence in ways that I’ve never felt before. Feeling confident in yourself and your abilities is life changing. It changes who you are as a person, I don’t know what the key was that unlocked my confidence so sadly I can’t make any miracles but I believe a lot of my confidence came from self belief. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will? I’ve also developed a lot more body confidence this year, which I think went hand in hand with going to the gym and eating healthier.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation
This foundation was such a great release from Rimmel this year, it’s become the one that I reach for on the daily now. I have a full review on it here, I love the build able coverage that it gives and how healthy it looks on my skin. It is really lightweight, it doesn’t feel heavy or horrible on your skin either. The only downside is the applicator, it isn’t the most hygienic but the advantages of the foundation far outweigh it.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Makeup Sponge
In one of my first posts earlier this year (I won’t link it due to the embarrassment) I mentioned how I’d started using this Real Techniques sponge. I’ve used it intermittently this year, it’s been a love/hate one at some times but overall I’ve fallen in love with using makeup sponges. Especially for applying highlighter, the pop that it gives is insane. Even just going over my base with a damp sponge give it such a nice finish.
Makeup Revolution Rose Gold Lipstick in Chauffeur
Have you even read my blog if you don’t know about my love affair with Chauffeur? This lipstick is my all time favourite lip product. It is just insane. The shade is gorgeous, the packaging is beautiful and the price of £3 is even better!!
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
I was very late to the train for this concealer as I only joined it around September time but it is already my all time favourite concealer. This is the second tube I’m using now as I use it everyday for under my eyes and for my spots. It has such a good coverage but is also so brightening which is a hard balance to get right in a concealer but Collection got it spot on with this.
Too Faced Love Eye Shadow Palette
This has been my favourite eyeshadow palette that I’ve used this year. There is a really nice selection of shades in this palette, I love the middle one in the first square, it is such an amazing burnt orange which is so pigmented. I also the iridescent highlight which is at the top of the second square. There is a mix of glitters and mattes, it also comes with an eyeliner which I like to use to draw a flick before I go over it with liquid liner to make it more precise. This palette is just the whole package for me.
Freedom Brow Pomade
Until I discovered this pomade, I used to use a powder to fill in my brows which wasn’t that easy considering my brows are quite wild. When I discovered this pomade, the brow game changed. This just makes filling them in so much easier, it’s so pigmented but it does dry up sometimes which just requires a bit of water on the brush. I will 100% rebuy this when it runs out, it is a life saver for me.
L’oreal Pure Clay Masks-Detox,Glow & Purity
These masks have been a god send for me this year, especially the Detox mask, I’m onto my third pot now. They are incredible for the price, in particular the Detox one, you can see such a difference when you take them off.
Garnier Micellar Gel Face Wash
I’m a massive fan of the Garnier Micellar Water, it makes taking off makeup so easy and gives you such a thorough cleanse. I picked this up in a supermarket when my skin was playing up and I’ve not stopped using it since. This feels amazing to wash your face with, I feel like it gives my skin such a thorough clean.
Technic Solid Makeup Brush Cleaner
I was kindly sent this to review, which I did here and I’ve relied on it ever since. This my go to product for cleaning my brushes, it gives them the thorough clean that they need and does it with such ease. This is another product that I’ll rebuy when it runs out.
Burgundy Old Skool Vans
I’ve blabbed on about these Vans throughout Autumn and Winter because I’ve literally lived in them. I love how they look with so many different outfits, although they blooming killed my feet for so long, they were well worth the blisters.
Trousers and Culottes
This year I wanted to make a move away from jeans and start to wear trousers and culottes a lot more as they look a lot smarter and make me feel like I’ve made an effort (even when little has been made). I started wearing culottes first, I do prefer to wear just plain black ones as they suit more outfits, but I do have a sassy patterned pair which I bring out in the summer. Trousers are a late addition to my wardrobe but are here to stay for sure. I’m loving the ones with side stripes, I have two pairs now, they just look so smart and are a lot comfier than jeans!
If you’re a gym goer but haven’t found the right leggings yet you can stop looking as I assure you, these are the most perfect workout leggings. They fit perfectly and don’t go see through when they stretch (squat probs), they’re so comfy and don’t feel irritating when you’re working out. I don’t wear any other leggings to exercise in other than these now.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed seeing what my favourite products/things of 2017 were. Also, I hit two milestones yesterday that I want to say the biggest thank you for, I reached 800 followers on my blog which is just surreal and I hit 10,000 views for this year. I still can’t believe it, I am so grateful for everyone who has followed and read my blog, I can’t tell you how much the support means to me so thank you!
