Podcasts I Love…

I love listening to podcasts. It’s such a great way to spend your spare time but to also fill time such as, when you’re in the gym and when you’re in the bath, the latter I’m particularly fond of. I thought I’d share with you some of my favourites, so here we go…

Ctrl Alt Delete
This podcast is hosted by the amazing Emma Gannon who is an author, blogger and a podcast host. I find her online presence very positive and inspiring, I hope that mine could have the same impression one day. I love Emma, she speaks so wonderfully and her podcast is perfect for bloggers.

In Ctrl Alt Delete, Emma talks to her guests about their relationship with the Internet, which is never not interesting. I always feel inspired after listening to one of these episodes, her guests are always so diverse and individual so there are never two episodes the same.

My Favourite Episodes:Elizabeth Gilbert, Giovanna Fletcher, Estee Lalonde, Gemma Cairney, Dawn O’Porter

Happy Mum, Happy Baby
This podcast is hosted by the ever so lovely Giovanna Fletcher, her voice is just so comforting and warm that you can’t not love listening to one of these episodes. Gi is an author, blogger, vlogger, actress and a mother, the latter being what drives the podcast.

In the podcast, Gi chats to celebrity parents about motherhood, discussing what some may not and being honest and open. This is not a podcast that I would say is strictly exclusive to an audience of parents as I (who isn’t a parent) love listening to this podcast and have found myself laughing and crying to may of these episodes.

My Favourite Episodes:Fearne Cotton, Izzy Judd, Emma Willis, Rochelle Humes, Jo Elvin

Magic Lessons
This podcast is hosted by Emma Gilbert who is an author and podcast host. She famously wrote the memoir ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ which is an unforgettable read. I’m yet to read her book ‘Big Magic’ which is what her podcast is based upon, it is a self-help book about creativity.

In the podcast, Emma speaks to artists about how they can overcome their fears in order to be able to be creative more happily. This is another very inspiring podcast, Emma is a heart warming host who is so wise and informative, I can’t recommend this enough to anyone who has a creative output.

 Favourite Episodes:Neil Gaiman

The True Geordie
This podcast is hosted by Brian and Laurence, their pairing is one of the most iconic in hosting. Their individual interviewing styles mean that they leave no stone unturned together, they really are a perfect paring. Brain is ‘The True Geordie’ he is a Youtuber, he posts episodes and outtakes of his podcasts onto his channel.

I couldn’t even try and summarise all of the episodes as each one is individual. Each guest is so individual and different. Their interviewing style does ensure that taboo topics are tackled head on.

My Favourite Episodes:Robbie Williams, WillNE & Stephen Tries, Alfie Deyes, Joe Weller

The Heart Of It
This podcast is hosted by my girl crush, Estee Lalonde. Estee is a Canadian blogger, vlogger, author. I am a huge fan of hers, I’ve blabbed on about how much I admire her in so many blog posts as she just bosses life and does it in such an effortlessly gorgeous manner. I was so happy when she announced the release of her podcast last year.

In the podcast, Estee gets to the heart of topics that are close to her heart. I adore the parts of the podcast where Estee is discussing her own opinion in a monologue style but there is something so intriguing about her use of guests. Estee’s guests are always so interesting, although they may only feature for a short amount of time. I will always put down whatever I’m doing to listen to their experiences.

My Favourite Episodes:Feminism, Makeup,Mom, Tattoos, Strength (aka them all)

Desert Island Discs
This podcast is hosted by Kirsty Young, a TV and Radio presenter who hosts this podcast on Radio 4. Kirsty’s voice is just so calming and relaxing. It just oozes intelligence for me. Desert Island Discs celebrated its 75th anniversary last year which is crazy.

In the podcast, Kirsty asks her guests to share with her which eight tracks, one book and one luxury they would take with them to a deserted island. I believe these things can tell you a lot about a person, I’d love to share mine in a blog post one day as I think the answers are so interesting. I can think of few who haven’t featured on an episode of this iconic podcast.

My Favourite Episodes:James Corden, Gok Wan, Ed Sheeran, David Beckham, Tom Hanks

The Guilty Feminist
This podcast is hosted by comedian, Deborah Frances-White who is hilarious. Deborah speaks to her guests about everything that comes with 21st century feminism; all of the confessions that many won’t discuss but shouldn’t be ashamed too.

Feminism is something that so many can’t get their head round and I always feel like I learn a little bit more after listening to one of these episodes. I also love that each episode is recorded in front of a live audience, it creates such a nice atmosphere.

My Favourite Episodes:Activism, Judgement, Stereotypes, Self-depracation

At Home With…
This podcast is hosted by Lily Pebbles (Author, Blogger, Youtuber) and Anna Newton (Blogger and Podcast host). The two go into their guests homes to discuss their lives and most importantly-their homes.

The two leave nothing missed when rifling through their guests homes and discovering lots about the homeowner in the process. After all, a house must tell you a lot about a person and I think that sums up the whole premise of the show. Discovering a lot about the guest’s home-their decor, choices etc- and what it reflects about that person. This is  a really nice, chilled podcast but is so interesting and cosy to listen to. I like to put this one on when I’m reading as it doesn’t require all of your attention.

My Favourite Episodes:Giovanna Fletcher, Zoe Sugg, Jo Elvin, Liz Earle

Late Night Woman’s Hour
Late Night Woman’s Hour is hosted by Lauren Laverne-DJ,model, TV presenter, author, singer and comedian. I’m sure you’ll have heard of Woman’s Hour, aired on BBC Radio 4, a podcast which offers a woman’s perspective on the world and on topical issues. I’m sure from hearing the title of Late Night Woman’s Hour you’ll understand the premise in comparison to Woman’s Hour.

LNWH is a bit less strict and formal. It is honest, funny and genuine. I love the whole concept of it as a side from WH- which is also an incredible podcast. Lauren is such a fun host and communicates with her guests brilliantly. I love to put one of these episodes on when I’m falling asleep.

My Favourite Episodes:Hair, Parties

Open Up
This podcast is hosted by the glorious Gemma Cairney who is the author of one of my favourite non-fiction books-Open Up. Alongside being an author and podcast host, Gemma is also a radio presenter and stylist. Gemma is hilarious, she makes my belly hurt with laughing and this really comes across with her relaxed presenting style.

In each episode, Gemma travels the UK to speak to the youth of today about life- its ups and downs, what it’s like to be young in this day and age. I wish I had this podcast (and the book) when I was younger as it is so helpful.

My Favourite Episodes:Activism and Feminism, Stress and Anxiety, Love and Sex

Get It On
This podcast is hosted by the incredible Dawn O’Porter. I’m pretty sure everyone knows how Dawn is and all of the amazing things that she has done. Dawn is an author (a very good one), TV presenter and director. She is hilarious, a brilliant writer and just an amazing woman to look up to in this day and age. Dawn’s presenting style in her podcast is so natural and effortless, her voice is a dream.

In each episode, Dawn speaks to each guest about their relationship with clothes and why they wear what they do. Dawn has recently founded a clothing range called BOB which I presume is what has given her the incentive to base her podcast around fashion. It is very interesting, before I’d listened to an episode I was apprehensive but I love it.

My Favourite Episodes:Caroline Flack, Jason Segel, Gemma Cairney, Dermot O’Leary, Jo Elvin, Dawn French

Thank you so much for reading, I really do hope that you enjoy this one and take some inspiration from it and give some of these a listen.

  5. Great post, I’ve only recently got into podcasts and they are great for the drive to and from work. I’ve subscribed to a few you’ve mentioned, so thanks! One I’d definitely recommend is ‘My dad wrote a porno’. It’s comedy cold with Alice Levine from Radio 1 and two blokes, one of who’s dad wrote a porn novel. X
